Managed Audits

Welcome to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation's Managed Audit program!

What is a Managed Audit?

The Rhode Island Managed Audit Program (“Program”) is designed to promote and encourage compliance with Rhode Island tax laws.  This Program will help you determine if you owe any taxes for prior tax periods and encourage a better understanding of how tax applies to your industry and business transactions.  The Division will provide guidance to assist you to become compliant and improve business procedures as they relate to taxes and fees administered by the Division.  The Division will help and work with you every step of the way.   

What are the benefits?

When you complete the audit in accordance with Program guidelines, the audit results are approved, and you pay the tax due, the Division will waive all penalties, waive up to two-thirds of the interest, and agree not to audit you for the tax type and time period involved in the managed audit.

How do I apply?

To apply for this Program, please complete the enclosed application and return it within thirty (30) days from the date of this notice to the address provided on the application.  Once accepted, a revenue agent from the Division’s Audit Section will contact you to establish an audit period, a timeline for completing the audit, and the documentation to review and include with your completed managed audit.
